FIND THE RECOVERY CHRIST HAS FOR YOU
All of us need some kind of recovery. Whether you are wrestling with a hurt, hang-up, or habit, Celebrate Recovery is for you. At CR, you will find a group of people just like you, building community with others and finding the recovery available to all of us through Christ. When you join us for CR, you will experience a time of worship and a message, and then spend some time in an open share group.

What is
Celebrate Recovery?
CR is for EVERYONE
Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered, life and addiction 12-step recovery program for anyone struggling with just about anything. CR is a safe place to find community and freedom from the issues that are controlling our lives.
FACT: CR is present in over 37,000 churches worldwide, and more than two-thirds of its participants attend for reasons other than substance abuse.
No. We recognize that the Pikes Peak region only has a few Celebrate Recovery programs. New Life Church is pleased to host this program for you, regardless of your church affiliation.
Our Thursday CR meetings consist of a time of worship followed by a reading of the 12 Steps or 8 Principles. After that, we offer an optional opportunity for individuals to come and get a blue chip to celebrate that they are at CR for the first time, if someone is making a recommitment in a specific area, or starting a new faith commitment that God has identified. We then have either a testimony or a teaching, depending on the night, and then close with the Serenity Prayer.
Yes and no. Anyone under 18 can come to the dinner at 5:30 pm and to the first portion of the meeting until the teaching or testimony starts. Children are not permitted to attend the open share groups. This is because of the nature and subjects of what is being shared. We are hoping to start a kids’ ministry in the future.
Yes. If it is your first time, dinner is free! After that, we suggest a $3 donation to cover the costs. Many people give more than $3 as a way to give back and cover another person’s meal.
Open share groups are small groups of men or women meeting at 7:30 pm directly after the big group on Thursday nights. Each person gets time to speak, focusing their sharing on themselves. Our guidelines protect this time from interruptions and cross-talk. There is no requirement to share. Just coming and listening to others can help you in your journey. If you don’t want to share, just say, “I’ll pass on sharing tonight”.
The 1st timer’s next class happens directly after the CR Large meeting at 7:30 pm. We start promptly with a short history of CR and go over the guidelines. Then men and women form small groups, a leader facilitates a short time of sharing by asking How did you hear about CR? And what brought you? But there is no requirement to share.
People usually say something like, “I’m a grateful believer in Jesus who struggles with codependency, my name is Jimmy.” This type of introduction puts the emphases on who you are in Christ while sharing a struggle you are bringing to God. It’s a bit of a mouthful when you first start coming to CR. It’s not required to introduce yourself like this, but part of our culture of identifying with Christ and being honest about our struggles.
A big part of the CR system of recovery is getting accountability partners and a sponsor. These relationships are formed naturally, and the timing and willingness to form these relationships are on the person seeking them. Think of an accountability partner as someone who can ask you how you’re really doing. A friend who will pray for you and even sit with you at a CR meeting. A sponsor is someone who will help you and walk with you through your time in a Step Study. They have done a step study, have a year of sobriety in their primary area, and have been through the sponsor training.
A Step Study is CR’s curriculum. It consists of 4 workbooks, with weekly assignments covering the 12 Steps over a period of 9-12months. Meeting weekly, participants complete and bring homework as well as openly share about life experiences while encouraging each other towards healing and hope. It’s where the rubber meets the road; it’s going deeper in freedom.
CR has so many opportunities to serve. Because we serve a meal and have a café each week, there are many places to volunteer, including making the coffee, setting up, tearing down, bringing desserts, and greeting. We have a signup sheet. Please email Celebraterecovery@newlifechurch.org for more of the opportunities available each week.
Celebrate Recovery began in 1991 at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California. John Baker, who had been in recovery himself, wrote a heartfelt proposal seeing the need for a Christ-centered recovery program and presented this to his Pastor, Rick Warren. He envisioned a faith-based program that would address not only addictions but also hurts, hang-ups, and habits of every kind. The program is built on the Beatitudes from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, with eight principles and 12 steps of recovery rooted in Scripture. Throughout the years, Celebrate Recovery has grown into a global ministry, with over 37,000 locations.
